Not your ordinary date night ideas

So, you have been on lockdown for a while and you are out of ideas for date night? Don’t worry, we have BEEN THERE.  We were absolutely determined to keep date night going, despite a seemingly never ending Covid crisis in Germany.  Usually date night revolves around going to a new bar or restaurant, but when that couldn’t happen…and we had exhausted every list on the web…we got creative.

Here are some of the ideas we came up with. You are welcome.

  • Set up your own nightclub

The Wolf covered all the walls in our wintergarden with tinfoil and fairy lights.  Boom – disco explosion.  Turn the music up loud and get ya groove on.  (Would work equally well in any room of the house – just push everything to the side.)

  • Go camping at home

Dust off your tent and sleeping bags and relive the fun backyard/lounge/deck camping you did as kids.  Kinda.  Take wine.

  • Body paint each other

Order some body paint on-line and let your imagination go wild!  I ended up as Super Girl and The Wolf was an All Black for a night.  Be careful though, that paint gets EVERWHERE.  It did eventually rub off our bed!

  • Blind taste testing

Pick a flavour and foods that are all meant to taste like it.  I choose chocolate.  We had chocolate ice-cream, chocolate beer, chocolate covered fruit, chocolate gin (a revelation!!!!) …you get the picture.  Your partner has to guess what they are eating or drinking.  Delicious and you might just find a new favourite.

Ohhhhh yes! Sipsmith Orange and Cocao gin changed our lives.
  • Host your own cultural night

We had an “Indian” night.  We ordered delivery curry, watched a Bollywood Film, did an on-line Indian dance class and The Wolf was challenged to tie my Saree.   Which was a real challenge!

  • Ready.  Steady. Cook

I made a list of the food we had in the house.  The day before date night, commonly known as Wednesday, we both blindly picked three items and had to use them to make a dish.  We could use anything else in the cupboard or buy it from the store.  Nothing we created made it onto the “we’ll cook that again” list, but that wasn’t the point.

  • Home photo studio

Get out your good camera or use your phone, it doesn’t matter.  Take interesting photos of things around your house.  Look at everything from a new perspective.  Print the best ones out, if you dare.

Do yourself and your relationship a favour.  Dedicate some “us fun” time.  And if you run out of ideas, there are plenty more where these came from.
